Blog Tips: Writing Irresistible Headlines - Cupcake banner image

When it comes to blogging, headlines are everything. According to Copyblogger, 8 out of 10 people will read your headline, while only 2 out of 10 will read the body copy. If you can’t get people to click on your post, all your work is in vain.

The purpose of every sentence in your web content is to get the next line read until your reader reaches the call-to-action. But how will you ever convert visitors into customers if they never have a chance to hear what you have to say because of poorly written headlines?

Writing great headlines can be tricky. Luckily, there are some proven methods you can use that will instantly help boost your results.

1. Focus on Benefits.

When writing any type of marketing copy, you always want to focus on benefits, rather than features. Do the same when writing your blog. This is not to say that features arent important. You will need them as you demonstrate how your product will provide what you promised.

But, though people hesitate to admit it, we are highly motivated by emotional appeals. So highlighting how your product helps your customers on an emotional level will often do better than just tossing out product attributes.

2. The Power of the How to Post

Everyone loves learning something new. This is why how to blog posts work so well. Only be sure to explain something that’s actually relevant and useful to your customers – even better if they can act on it immediately!

If visitors can quickly benefit from your advice, they will find your company a trustworthy and valuable source of information, ultimately leading them to purchase your product or service.

3. Ask a Question. (Then Answer it in your Blog.)

Framing your blog headline as a question can be a highly effective way to get people to read your post. Just make certain you provide an answer to something your customers actually care about.

When it comes time to put together a blog article, write in a conversational tone, using the language of your audience. If people wanted a highly technical article, they would have gone to Wikipedia.

4. Use Numbers.

Numbers do extremely well on the internet. As people are strapped for time, they appreciate knowing exactly what they are going to get when they click on your post – using two numbers does even better!

5. Be Specific.

In the age of search engines, its important to be specific. With the high volume of content on the web, most people no longer simply type in a general search term, such as “restaurants.” They will more likely type in a query like best burger joints in Nashville, therefore raising their chances of getting applicable results.
